Portable Water Desalinator

This concept is a backpack-sized, solar powered water desalinator/distiller. Using photovoltaic panels to power a small pump, water is drawn into the heating tank. Solar thermal collectors filled with propylene glycol heat the water to vaporization temperature and the vapor passes through outside air via a plastic tube to the second stage tank.

The second stage tank is cooled by the incoming water and allows the vapor to condense. Once condensed, the now fresh water can be retrieved through a valve connected to the bottom of the tank.

This device can produce enough drinkable water for one person per day and features a pressure release valve and outlet port to flush out brine after use.
