Senior Design Project:

Coiled Segments Robot

The coiled segment robot is capable of distributing up to 50 feet of extension cord, tubing, or flexible pipe round corners, in tight spaces, or under dangerous conditions. It is designed specifically to connect cord ends together using an articulated servo controlled cord guide in order to provide electric power, air, or communication line for disaster relief and industrial purposes.

The robot is controlled either remotely using a phone app or computer over WiFi and Bluetooth and a wide angle night vision camera, or can be automated using line following and sonic sensors.

The drive motors are capable of carrying up to 20 lbs at a 60 degree incline. A 12V battery pack and combination Bluetooth and WiFi give the robot a range of about 150 feet and the aluminum chassis provides appropriate weight distribution for driving over obstacles.
